Q & A With the ‘Cats – Get to know Hannah Greider

Year: Junior
Home Town: Shoreline, WA
Major/Minor: Psychology/Spanish

Why did you come to Linfield?
I was looking at small liberal arts colleges in Oregon (it was close and yet simultaneously far enough away from home) and Linfield gave me the most financial aid. But what was originally my second choice school (after University of Portland) happened to be the best fit I could have asked for!

What is your fondest memory thus far from your time at Linfield?
This is an impossible question. I have a million fond memories (most of them involving the cross country team). I do love our team Camp K on the coast though.

What is it that you enjoy most about cross country?
Running! I love seeing my races reflect the work I’ve put in and I love competing. Cross country is so mental and strategic - the competition is not as straightforward as some might believe. I also love my team - they are my family. This is another impossible question to answer because there is little I don’t enjoy about cross country!

Who is your athletic hero/role-model?
Shalane Flanagan - Breaking the American record her first try in the 10k? Boss. Also Emil Zatopek, he’s a quirky guy and not your typical distance runner, but I really like his attitude and how awesome were his three goldmedals in the 1952 Olympics???

Do you crinkle your race bib number or leave it smooth?
Smooth.

What’s your most embarrassing athletic moment?
Lets just say it’s really hard for me to control my bladder at the end of races...

What is your favorite movie?
Shawshank Redemption and Lord of the Rings.

What song is most played on your iPod?
Would You Go With Me - Josh Turner

What is your homepage on your computer?
Google

What words of wisdom would you offer to a college-bound high school senior?
You don’t have to be set on the dream school in order to find a great fit as long as you know the type of school you want. Also, get excited! College is a blast and a chance to start fresh and break out of the the label you couldn’t shed in high school. There are so many opportunities, so get involved and start out strong (make good choices).
