Wildcats Battle at Willamette Invite

SALEM, Ore. – With matching 25th-place efforts, Joe Gladow and Siena Noe paced the Linfield men and women at the Willamette Charles Bowles Invitational Saturday afternoon at Bush’s Pasture Park and both Wildcat teams placed 10th overall

Gladow completed the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 48 seconds. Junior Calvin Howell recorded a personal best which was good enough for another top-50 finish for the Wildcats with a 40th-place showing in 26:13.30.

Alex Mangan and Michael O’Neil were the 64th and 68th runners, respectively, to cross the finish line. Mangan clocked in at 26:40.20 while O’Neil came in at 26:48.64. Adrian Clifford rounded out the scoring on the Linfield men’s side with a 90th-place showing in 27 minutes, 20.40 seconds.

“The guys battled hard,” stated assistant coach Chris McIsaac. “They’re coming off of some really hard training and were toeing the line with some pretty tired legs, so we’re fairly pleased with the outcome.”

Noe finished as the Wildcats’ No. 1 runner for the first time this year, registering a time of 18 minutes, 52.12 seconds for the 5,000-meter women’s race. Fellow senior Katie Skinner came in 13 places back in 19:11.41. Marisa Kume and Hannah Greider also came in among the top 75 runners overall. Kume was 70th (19:31.04) while Greider took 75th (19:35.94). Linfield’s fifth scoring runner was Madison Trowbridge, who finished 116th in a time of 20 minutes, 17.54 seconds.

“We had a bit of a mixed bag on the women’s side,” stated McIsaac. “There were some big PRs, but also some disappointing performances - but that comes with the territory this time of year. Once we back off here shortly, things should come around for everyone.”
